OFF GRID INSTALLATION - Palmer River Gold Feilds

Palmer River Gold's Field's Mining Camp

The Palmer River Gold Fields, (Maytown) is just East of Laura, in Far North Queensland. We were approached to install a Solar battery system for a Small camp of four people. Previously the customer was using a generator to power his camp. He was sick of carting in fuel, having to remember to bring fuel and keep fuel in stock because of his remote location. This system was supplied and installed for around $11,000

Appliances the customer was running:

  • 2x 200 Litres Chest freezers ( one had a power control module and was run as a fridge this is around four times more efficient then an upright fridge)
  • 6x 2 foot fluros
  • 2x 4 foot fluros
  • Microwave, toaster, jug
  • Pedestal Fans
  • TV & Radio
  • Washing Machine

So we installed

  • 12x Jinko 250watt Poly solar Panels 3 KW
  • 1x Schnider MPPT 60A Charger Controller
  • 6x 2v BAE Batteries (12 volt battery bank 950 Amp-Hour Batteries 11.4 Kw of batteries)
  • 1x Battery Monitor

The solar array installed was 250 percent over sized, to ensure even in overcast conditions batteries will remain highly charged. On most days the batteries are complexly charged before 10 am.

The expected eatery life is 13.6 years, as the daily discharge amount was around 29 percent, and the batteries will run for 2.5 days with completely no solar input which would only occur on a equipment fault, as the solar input is so high it is very unlikely to have 0 input.
